Do you think customer review really matters? The answer is, it surely does. Now that there are online platforms that help share peoples opinion and thoughts of about anything in any part of the world, with just a couple of clicks. Reviews are seen all around the web, in e-commerce websites, social media, blogs etc. Indeed there are websites that are dedicated to customer reviews like TripAdvisor. Such websites help consumers freely share their opinion on a specific product or service, whether it is a positive or negative comment. These comments or reviews are a valuable asset to any company. Every marketer knows that word-of-mouth advertising is more effective and trumps all when it comes to authenticity. When a customer reviews the comments and opinions from those who had already availed your product or service, especially if they are close to that person, then it influences their decision making in a way that a regular advertising could never do.

In this digital era, believe it or not, customer reviews are the new word-of-mouth. People use that to take buying decisions and businesses use that to influence the customer and to take notes for improvement. Both positive and negative reviews take a toll on the company’s image. So a company must always keep a lot out for not negative reviews and immediately rectify it. Positive reviews can lead to explosive sales, whereas negative sales can poorly affect your sales numbers creating a bad image in total with a great deal of loss.

Why online reviews?

Let’s say people look into an online review for 4 main reasons:

  1. To get proof that customers have used the product/service.

  2. To know more regarding the product before purchasing.

  3. To prevent making a wrong purchase and wasting money over the wrong product/service.

  4. To clearly rule out the benefits and limitations for that specific product/service.

The goal for any company is to receive positive reviews and use them to boost their sales and their online presence.

5 strategies to get customer reviews:

  1. Get reviews from different platforms

An easy way to get reviews is to make it as easy as possible. The more work it takes, the less willing someone is to waste their time to provide a review. Third-party review websites and social media platforms are a great way to spread good word about the company and what it does/sells and a good way to get customer feedback.

  1. Make the best use of your website

Your very own online website can be a great tool to get customer reviews. By optimizing your website and blog posts, where you can allow visitors to leave their opinions or comments easily without any complications involved. Also make sure it is optimized for mobile, as many use mobile and its quicker. Also adding a live chat can add more value to the website and improves customer service and you can receive feedbacks instantly.

  1. Reviews from emails

Sending emails after purchase is a good way to show that you value what your customer has to say and that you acknowledge them. By sending the email for their review you can get an honest feedback as they feel they are having a one-to-one conversation. Getting their feedback can help you notice where necessary adjustments are needed to be made to improve sales. Polls and surveys can also give you enough data to improve your customer service.

  1. Give benefits for reviews

If you aren’t getting a good number of expected reviews you can add a small reward for every review you receive. Time is valuable, so why not give them a reason to leave a review. It’s a win-win situation for both the customer and the company.

  1.  Focus on your timing

Knowing when is the right time to ask for a customer review is important. Whether it be through your company social media, or your e-commerce website or email, timing is always crucial. The last thing you want is to get under someone’s skin by sending at the wrong time and receiving a negative review, resulting in losing the customer and others who review that negative comment. Some of the right time to ask for review is when a person tags the brand in their social media or when they re-order a product, or when they spend a good amount of time on the company’s website. The whole point behind this is to give them a feeling of satisfaction and that their feedback is very valuable to the company.

There isn’t a perfect solution or formula to get good customer reviews, but following these strategies drive the company to success as it helps improve their customer service and brand image.
